Embracing The Cultural Differences Between The East And The West

Featured Replies

Our community is one that is global and so consequentially we are primarily divided into two large and popular demography's - The east and the west. The East is where the Asian countries are, and the West is typically America and Canada. I've been to Singapore, and I've been to The United States and Canada, and I can tell that there is a huge cultural difference between all the countries. Canadians believe in a sophisticated culture of youth and hospitality. Singaporeans are modern and fast paced and Americans are diverse as a multi-national nation. There is so much cultural diversity, but since the beginning we have formed a singular mindset which we share and that is Ragnarok Online. Without causing a single distinction, RO has been a binding social "fit-in" factor for all cultures and diversities to pick up. When we say that we've played RO with someone, we share the same thoughts and feelings about the game as we share with anyone else who we are closely related with. This I think is an important thing to reflect on when we're sitting by ourselves, that we've shared our gaming journey's with someone who is automatically categorized as a friend. Given that we share this factor, what are really our differences and how do we live in real life?

I think it is a good topic for a conversation if we discuss and embrace or celebrate our differences living in different parts of the world largely in two halves of the Globe. If we do this, we will possess a better relationship than we've had before. I can start by saying that living in India it is a hugely populated country with a diversity of people of different classes and cultures. There are people who are educated and those who are less fortunate in their lives and live ordinary lives. I would be classified as one who is educated and am living on my own qualifications since a long time. I want to be more sophisticated in knowledge and speak vocally in a higher understanding or in a group of people with a better understanding of English because the language is not primarily used here. We speak Hindi or Marathi. All in all, it is a great place to live where I am from, and there is a lot of social culture in different groups of people. There are many kinds of languages, and it is always great to hear people speak something that is different from what you know because something new to understand is always appreciated.

We also have Software, IT, Computer Science and Programming that we can talk about and share our experiences. I think this connects us more than we would connect in any other genre of thinking. I would appreciate some a conversation about these topics just as much as I would speaking with someone from the RO community. It would be amazing to hear what you guys and girls from the West think and how does social culture there change even in RO communities. What do you generally talk about and how are we different in culture?

I enjoyed reading your posts, @Sephus. Keep em coming! I am beginning to work on my writing and articulation skills.

@Sephus, since we're going to have this forum of yours to be cultural melting pot, how about allowing others to post about their game design or creative endeavours here other than Ragnarok Online?

Best wishes,

@Zack
